Heroic Couple Tackles Shooter, Saves Lives During Kansas City Super Bowl Parade.

On Wednesday, an estimated 1 million people gathered for the Kansas City Super Bowl parade that would go on to end in a shooting. At the time of writing this article, one person has been fatally shot and more than 20 have been wounded, including children. In the aftermath of this tragedy, attention is turning to a Wichita couple who bravely took action that no doubt prevented even more people from getting hurt.

Trey and Casey Filter are lifelong Kansas City Chiefs fans. That’s why they and their two sons were happy to join in on the celebratory parade for the Super Bowl champions two years in a row. But as the family celebrated with other fans in the city, chaos ensued when gunshots rang out.

For many, the shots initially sounded like fireworks. But as one of the shooters ran past them, they only had seconds to make a decision. While it would have been entirely understandable if they chose to run away to safety, Trey and Casey joined forces to tackle him.

“We just did what we felt we needed to do in that moment,” Casey explains. “I don’t think we could have just walked away being right there like that.”

The video below shows the very moment this couple took action.

In tackling the shooter, the couple was able to restrain him until cops could arrive. Casey even managed to get the gun away from him should the shooter slip out of their grasps. Needless to say, both Casey and Trey are still processing what happened, much less their own involvement.

“We’re still processing all that,” Trey says. “I mean, I can only imagine what the families are going through. It’s just horrible.”

“My heart goes out to them,” Casey adds. “I just can’t even imagine.”

In the meantime, the couple continues to be grateful that they could play a part in saving lives that day, including their own children who are especially appreciative of their parents right now.

“They’re pretty proud of their dad,” Casey shares.

“It’s just really a lot to process and to be grateful for,” Trey adds.
