During a fight on “The Five,” the show’s left-leaning co-host Jessica Tarlov furiously snapped at one of the show’s more right-leaning co-hosts, Jesse Watters, when he mocked her in what she thought was a “rude” way. The latest fight was one of many between the hosts, with Tarlov and Watters tending to bicker on the show.
Their spat came when the panel of “The Five” discussed former President Donald Trump’s legal woes. Tarlov, attempting to dunk on the former president and his backers. argued that “people don’t want to vote for a convicted felon.” Her comments come as Trump prepares to face an April 15 trial over allegations he falsified business records to cover up a hush money payment to Stormy Daniels, a charge he has pleaded not guilty to.
Further, they come amidst Trump’s continuing fight with New York Attorney General Letitia James and Judge Arthur Engoron over the civil fraud case brought against him by AG James. The appellate court recently cut the amount Trump needs to pay in half, an amount Trump has said that he not only can pay, but can pay in cash.
Tarlov, in any case, tried to use Judge Engoron’s finding in the case to bash Trump, claiming that he inflated the value of his real estate holdings in an illegal way, the ruling of Judge Engoron. She said, “The average real estate investor isn’t inflating the worth of their–” That’s when she was interrupted by Watters, who joked, “You don’t know anything about real estate, Jessica. You rent.”
It was meant to be lighthearted and fun, and four of the co-hosts laughed. All but Tarlov. Furious with Watter for his joke at her expense, she snapped, “Did you actually just say that to me?” Watters, not doing much to address her fury with him, praised Trump’s skill at handling and profiting from real estate, sticking up for the former president’s business acumen.
Tarlov, still snapping mad, went back on the attack both against Trump and Watters. First attacking the idea that Trump has not gotten a fair hearing from the court system, Tarlov spat back, “He’s been given due process.” She continued, “He’s gotten almost all of his requests – from the Supreme Court down to the state courts.”
She then went back to attacking Watters for his joke at her expense, saying, “And what you just said – beyond the incredibly rude way that you began about the fact that I rent my apartment – is basically giving him carte blanche to do everything from storing classified documents and flouting subpoenas and not returning them to fomenting an insurrection after he lost an election by millions of votes.”
