A North Carolina mom’s Facebook post is going viral all because of an unusual black mark that was found on her baby’s palate. Could the mysterious dark patch be a sign of necrotic skin lesions? The understandably concerned mom rushed her daughter to a doctor only to discover it was a false alarm.

In late May, Darian Depreta was playing with her baby daughter, Bella, when she noticed a huge, strange black mark on the roof of her mouth. Panicked, the mom of two attempted to wipe the mark off but in vain.

“I try wiping it to see if it would come off, and it didn’t,” Depreta recounted the incident on Facebook. Worrying it could be a sign of a serious health issue, she made an appointment with the doctor immediately.

“I get to the doctors and the Nurse Practitioner tried to wipe it, and said she had never seen anything like it. She decides to consult with the doctors and they suggest maybe a birthmark. I INSISTED it was not because I always look in her mouth and clean it,” the mom wrote.

After Depreta insisted it wasn’t a birthmark, the worried mother was told that her daughter would be set up with two specialists to determine what the problem was. Then, the nurse took another look at the sinister-looking mark.

“I point out it looks a little white on the side and she really gets in there trying to scrape it,” Depreta further explained on her post about the black spot. Upon investigation, the nurse found out what the mysterious medical condition Bella was suffering from was.

Shockingly, the black mark was found to be a piece of cardboard.
