Young boy dies after being ‘zapped’ by Christmas lights in his family home
The 10-year-old was ‘so happy’ to be decorating his bedroom when the tragedy occurred.
A young boy has died after being “zapped” by Christmas lights while decorating his family home ahead of the festive season.
Augusto Dalmaz Bonato,10, was found lying unconscious in his bedroom by his horrified dad before his sister Carolina attempted to revive him.
Paramedics arrived shortly after and took him to the hospital where he was placed in the ICU. Despite efforts to keep him alive, the 10-year-old tragically died in the early hours of Saturday.
Sister did ‘everything [she] could’
The boy’s devastated sister said he was “so happy” to be able to help set up the Christmas lights at their home in Campo Largo, Brazil, and said “it was such a silly thing” that claimed his life.

“I tried to revive him. I did everything I could,” she told local media following her brother’s death. “No one could have ever imagined what happened.” Exact circumstances surrounding teh incident remain unknown.
Augusto’s death comes after another family tragedy. His grieving uncle, Hebert Bonato, told local media, “A fortnight ago, we lost my father, and now this blow.”
“He received a massive shock. It wasn’t a simple Christmas lights shock. I don’t know if they were grounded to the earth,” he said.
Heartbroken mum’s tribute to son
Augusto was an altar boy at his local church and was “very religious”, according to his uncle. “He liked this time of year very much, he liked to spread the Christmas spirit to others,” he said.
The boy’s mum paid tribute to her son on social media in the days following his death.
“My boy has left us. My heart is torn with such pain. No words can express this much grief,” she wrote. “Go your way with God, my son. A boy who only brought joy and unforgettable moments. I will love you forever.”
