A historic record has been achieved in the Maltese Islands as Maria Farrugia turned 111, making her the oldest person ever to live in Malta.
This means Mary is old enough to have lived through two World Wars, Maltese Independence, the introduction of the Maltese Constitution, our membership of the European Union, 10 presidents, 14 prime ministers, 36 Eurovision entries and much more.
Maria is the oldest person who has ever lived in Malta and shows that she still has dreams to realize and wants to live more. Active life, work, nature, the sea, have helped me to live long and without illness. I thank God for giving me so many years of life. Therefore, a woman should always be strong, even though I have gone through many challenges in life.
Interestingly, Maria’s mother also lived a long life, passing away in 1982 at the age of 100.
